Takes or verbalizes body substance isolation

Assembles regulator to tank

Opens tank

Checks for leaks

Checks tank for pressure

Attaches non-rebreather mask

Prefills reservoir

Adjusts liter flow to 15 L/min or greater

Applies and adjusts mask to patientŐs face

NOTE: The examiner must advise the candidate to apply nasal cannula to patient

Attaches nasal cannula

Adjusts liter flow up to 6 L/min

Applies nasal cannula to patient

NOTE: The examiner must advise the candidate to discontinue oxygen therapy

Removes nasal cannula

Shuts off regulator

Relieves the pressure within the regulator

 

CRITICAL CRITERIA

 

            Did not take or verbalize body substance isolation technique

            Did not assemble the tank and regulator without leaks

            Did not adjust the device to the correct liter flow for the non-rebreather mask (15 L/min)

            Did not prefill the reservoir bag

            Did not adjust the device to the correct liter flow for the nasal cannula (up to 6 L/min)
