A woman has chest pain in the middle of the night; a young boy smashes his sled into a tree on Christmas; a couple is injured in their car on the way to church.Emergency care for a community is a huge job. It never ends. It never takes a holiday. It goes on round the clock.

Who answers their calls for help at all times of the day and night? A small group of people whose work brings them together like an extended family: the Pennington First Aid Squad. Its volunteers continually teach, protect and care for the community and one another.

Why do we need new members?

• The demand for our service has never been greater. Last year, the Pennington First Aid Squad answered a record number of 1100 calls.
• Squad members move away or get a new job; high school students go off to college; someone gets sick. So recruitment is an annual necessity. Without new members, the squad cannot continue to meet the community's needs.
• Our weekday crews are stretched especially thin, but that's when over a third of our calls occur. That's also when most of our riding members are at work. We especially need members who are available during weekday hours. Increasing call volume also means more help is needed with administration, maintenance, training and education.

Why should you join?

• Being a volunteer EMT is interesting work with great job satisfaction.
